Avalanche Level 1 Refresher |
This extra trip is optional. Level 1 Refresher field trips can follow an Avalanche Awareness class. Students can take this extra field trip to fulfill the Level 1 guidelines set forth by the American Avalanche Association. These trips are also recommended for building experience that is necessary for taking Level 2 in the future.

The Level 2 course is a 4-day program that provides backcountry leaders the opportunity to advance their avalanche knowledge and decision making skills. This course also includes the introductory and prerequisite components for the professional progression.
The Level 2 builds from the introductory avalanche hazard management model introduced in the Level 1 and adds to it the evaluation of factors critical to stability evaluation. Prerequisites: * Level 1 or Level 1 refresher in the last 3 years. Level 2 cannot be taken in the same year as Level 1, without special permission from the instructor due to the advanced nature and intensity of Level 2. * Course providers recommended reading.
