The Avalanche Awareness program includes six hours of classroom instruction followed by one day of field work. Students also receive a comprehensive avalanche textbook written to accompany the course.

This extra trip is optional.  Level 1 Refresher field trips can follow an Avalanche Awareness class.  Students can take this extra field trip to fulfill the Level 1 guidelines set forth by the American Avalanche Association.  These trips are also recommended for building experience that is necessary for taking Level 2 in the future.

New! Learn backcountry ski touring and avalanche safety with this comprehensive program.  This course combines our Introduction to Ski Touring with a Level 1 avalanche class into a 5-day course.

This one-day seminar is perfect for alpine skiers who want to learn to use convertible touring bindings or telemark skiers ready to ski the backcountry.

The tour will begin with discussion about ski touring equipment. You'll learn the appropriate gear to take in the backcountry, tricks and techniques with your climbing skins for uphill travel and strategies to find the best snow.

The Level 2 builds from the introductory avalanche hazard management model introduced in the Level 1 and adds to it the evaluation of factors critical to stability evaluation.
Prerequisites:
* Level 1 or Level 1 refresher in the last 3 years. Level 2 cannot be taken in the same year as Level 1, without special permission from the instructor due to the advanced nature and intensity of Level 2.
